About Me

My name is Cory. I am a mom, a wife, a NaNa, and a critical care nurse that lives in Nashville, TN. I have found my calling in ER/Trauma/ICU. Each day I find myself experiencing life changing events and hope that by reading my posts, you will experience and feel some of what I do. If you read nothing else, please take time to read "The Hardest Question Ever Asked". It's my very first posting. And if for some reason you think you see your story here.....you don't. It's not about you or anyone you know. =)

CARDIOGENIC SHOCK

So my assignment is a fairly young male in his late 40's that is in cardiogenic shock. He had previous heart attacks which had caused the heart muscle to be weak and unable to pump an adequate amount of blood. Doesn't sound funny does it? Well.... read on.

This patient (I'll call him "David") arrives home from work at his apartment complex. When he gets out of his car a kid about 16 steps up to him and pulls a gun on him demanding his wallet. David says no and the guy says he will shoot him. So David decides to take off running. Ok, so he gets about 10 feet away because his HEART is GARBAGE and he stops unable to breathe. He tells the kid "ok, I can't run away from you but I'm not giving you my wallet either." Then he proceeds to lean over, grabbing his heart and gasping for air. The kid asks "dude! what's wrong with you? Are you sick!!??" David answers that he has a bad heart and has never had the money to get the surgery he needs and doctor's had been telling him he needs to have open heart surgery. Get this: The kid starts crying. Then he starts telling David about his life and how no one cares about him and this man who is going into cardiogenic shock is COUNSELING THE KID!!! Guardian Angels.....that's all I can say!

Senseless Death of a Co-worker and friend - ??by her own hand??

I'm sad, I'm frustrated and I'm so damn angry!!!
Again I got a call from work. The sweet, kind, compassionate coworker who called me regarding my LAST post has apparently committed suicide. Why does senseless stuff like this happen? I just don't get it.
